Many consider Hua Hin to be one of the world’s best golf destination. There are ten excellent golf courses less than a half an hour’s drive from the laid-back beach town.
In addition to the greens golfers can enjoy Hua Hin’s relaxed lifestyle, which comes with excellent hotels, good restaurants and extensive shopping opportunities.
When taking a break from the greens, one can relax in Hua Hin’s succulent spas, some of them considered the best in Thailand.
Green Fees in Hua Hin
Green fees in Hua Hin range from 2000 to 4000 baht in the peak tourist season.
The fees are their most affordable during the rainy season in August and September, when all the courses (except Black Mountain) reduce their prices under 1000 baht.
The rainy season won’t affect the playing that much since Hua Hin lies on Thailand’s driest region, and the rains usually occur late in the evening.
Hua Hin’s Top Golf Courses
Black Mountain
Black Mountain is one of the city’s most demanding courses, and often ranked amongst the world’s greatest. It’s the venue of Asian Tour’s tournament. The greens are fast, tough and in great condition. This pro course fits best the experienced players.
Banyan Golf Club
Banyan Golf Club is another challenging course, known for its lovely natural feel. As few trees as possible were cut down when building the course, and natural inclinations of the terrain were left to the fairways. The result is beautiful but challenging.
Greens are always in top condition. Watch out for the pineapple fields bordering the fairways, as you can easily hurt your hand in the spiky plants while picking up a lost ball.
After the game, one can admire spectacular sunsets from the terrace of a beautiful clubhouse built in traditional Thai style.
Sea Pine Army Golf Club
Sea Pine Army Golf Club is one of Hua Hin’s newest courses, and it has fast risen to the top ranks of Hua Hin’s golf circuit.
Sea Pine Army Golf Club is Thailand’s only golf course located right by the beach, and a few of the fairways run right next to sandy beaches with occasional sun seekers. Don’t let the bikini beauties distract your game!
The great location on the expensive beachfront land is due to the fact that the course lies in protected military area, although it is open to all avid golfers.
Royal Hua Hin Golf Course
Thailand’s first golf course, the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, was established in 1924 at the behest of a king, enthusiastic golfer himself. It is still a joy to play.
The picturesque course lies in the very center of Hua Hin, right next to the atmospheric historical railway station. At the end of the fairway beautiful old Thai temple adds to the exotic feel, as well as monkeys stealing balls.
Other Great Golf Courses
Palm Hills is the favorite of many club players, since the course is easy to walk, and forgives small errors. The course is always in top condition.
Other exemplary courses are the Jack Nicklaus designed Springfield Royal Country Club, newly renovated 27-hole Majestic Creek and 36-hole Imperial Lake View.
Playing Made Easy
The easiest way to get to play is to arrange the games through some of Hua Hin’s many travel agents specialized in golf. The agents sell packages including discounted green fees and transportation to and from the courses.
One recommendable agent is Sabai Sabai Golf, which is known for its easy-going and friendly atmosphere. Their office has even a small wine bar – a great place to relax after the rounds and to meet new playing buddies.
If you need any new equipment, well-stocked Hua Hin Golf Shop is one of the leading golf shops in Thailand.
