Finland’s best ski resorts are all located in the very north of Finland. Levi, Ylläs, and Pyhä are in Lapland, and Ruka just below the Arctic Circle.

Finland’s ski resorts are excellent choices for novice skiers since the slopes are shorter and in general easier to ski than in the Alps of Central Europe. And there are plenty of other things to do for those who are not even interested in downhill skiing: you can try your skills in cross country skiing or snow shoes, enjoy a husky or snowmobile safari, or just join the fun with snow ledges.

Also snowboarding enthusiasts are well catered.

You can find great restaurants and wild after-ski in all the resorts.

Best way to reach any of the ski resorts is to fly from Helsinki. An alternative is to take a night train to Lapland’s main city Rovaniemi and continue from there either by bus or by rented car.

If Levi and Ylläs feel too big and party orientated Pyhä / Luosto is a great less hectic alternative. It has enough services to keep you satisfied but the feel is in general very serene.

And you can visit Luosto’s small amethyst mine to look for your own stone of magical properties.
